Blue Magpie Silk Scarf with Playful Watercolour

If you’ve made it this far into my website, you know that I love illustrating birds. What you may not know is that I am also obsessed with old libraries, old poetry, and superstitions. So this magpie art is based on a combination of all three, it comes from an old poem, I can’t find the author for it, but I do love the dark and slightly ominous nature for a bird that is by all my observances one of the most playful and wily animals. This scarf is available in a more stark black and white, but I also felt compelled to add a more playful watercolour washed version.

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret,
Never to be told.
Eight for a wish,
Nine for a kiss,
Ten for a bird,
You must not miss.
